BEST BETS

R4 n11 AKKAIDIAN EMPEROR Positive early from draw to be behind lead group. fth up off 14 days rises 1kg and out to 2400m (+200m). Last start BM78 Doomben was slow away (2L) and ridden forward to 5’* after that 5L off leader on a very fast tempo. Had a clear run home for 2n behind Piggyback beaten 0.6L. Race rated highly and his L200m figure in that was excellent. Really appreciated being back on dry ground there and sets up perfectly today out to 2400m off a good map and Piggyback would run a very short priced favourite here. Keen he wins with a positive ride early if track remains no worse than S5.

R6 n2 WEIGALL TIGER Positive early from inside draw to be on speed. 6*h up off 14 days rises 1.5kg and back to 1300m (-50m). Last start Class 6 Doomben was 5th up off a 42-day break and a trial – drew wide crossed early to sit 2nd on a slow tempo and was way too good for those horses from there winning by 2.4L. Race rated fairly off that tempo, but he closed off with a race dominant L400m figure. Has perfect racing pattern and keen he wins if track stays no worse than S5.

R7 n3 AMUR Positive early from inside draw to be on speed. 5th up off 21 days rises 3kg and stays at 1400m. Last start Open EFarm drew outside crossed early on a fast tempo to sit 2nd. Was very tough late from there when 2nd to Bullion Boy beaten narrowly-winner there had 3kg less and had a much softer run. Race rated well. H had a much different set up there to his previous win and that effort was excellent. Map suits and looks winner.

Caulfield Meeting Selections

Race 1: 1,7,4,8 Race 4: 1,4,6,9 Race 7: 9,10,2,4
 Race 2: 9,6,7,2 Race 5: 6* from 5,2,1 Race 8: 9* from 16,10,6
Race 3: 2,7,8,10 Race 6: 6* from 8,10,12 Race 9: 17,16,18,10
Race 10: 8* from 5,10,3

R5 n6 PLANET RED Forward inside early from draw behind lead group. 3′ up off 14 days and looks suited out to 1400m (+200m). Last start 3YO Listed Moonee Valley staying at 1200m 3rd up. Sat back 6th early on an even tempo 5L off leader and was then shuffled back mid race when speed went out of race. Was then under pressure when sprint came on but really attacked the line late for 4th beaten 2L by Rosberg who had perfect run and ride up ahead of him. He should have finished closer there with race fastest L200m figure. Maps closer 3rª up and 1400m looks ideal on the bigger track.

R6 n6 VIVID SUN Positive early from draw to get over with cover MF. 21ª up off 17 days drops 1.5kg and looks suited out to 1400m (+100m). Last start resumed off 129-day spell BM64 Sandown G4 track sat back last 8L off leader on a very fast tempo and charged home late to win impressively by 2.2L. Race rated strongly overall. Unbeaten well-bred filly (2/2) who will eat up the 1400m late today on her way to Group races over 1600m later in Spring. Will just need a good ride early from wider draw at this very tough start.

R8 n9 ANGEL CAPITAL Back off MF on map with cover. 21d up off 14 days drops 2.5kg and suited out to 1400m (+200m). Last start resumed off 210-day spell Listed Moonee Valley drew inside and sat back last 6l off leader on an even tempo but was travelling very strongly back there. Got to the outside coming to the turn and just destroyed them late winning by 3.8L. Race rated very highly, and he had plenty up his sleeve late. Group one horse in the making and proven out to 1400m. His L600m figure winning there was freakish. The very fast tempo here will suit him late. Keen he runs these down and wins. Exciting horse and D lane riding 53.5kg is a massive lead.

R10 n8 GILDED WATER Positive early from draw to get over on speed. 2nd up off 21 days drops 3kg and suited out to 2000m (+200m). Last start resumed off longer 224-day spell drew wider with big weight crossed early to sit 2nd outside leader on a fast tempo and was rock solid late running 3rd to Unlimited beaten 0.8L. Race rated strongly and his effort off the above on that tempo was excellent. High rating win Randwick 2nd up last prep out to 2400m closing off powerfully late off a strong tempo. Drops in weight, fitter 2d up today and firmer track is right in his favour. Keen he wins today.

BEST BETS

R5 n3 VAUBAN Forward early into the 1/1 position. 2d up off 14 days drops 2kg and well suited out to 2000m (+400m). Last start resumed off 147-day spell Group 2 Randwick 1600m which is a distance well short of the norm for him. Sat 4th early on an even tempo and was really strong late running 3rd to Lindermann who led and controlled. Race rated strongly and his L600m figure was excellent off that tempo over a very unsuitable distance. Proven 2nd up and was excellent last prep when 2d up in a high-quality Tancred Stakes beaten 1.4L by Dubai Honour when he should have finished closer. Can only be fitter and better today and keen he wins.

R6 n2 TUPAKARA Forward early into the 1/1 position. 2nd up off 14 days and looks suited out to 1400m (+200m). Last start resumed off 140-day spell drew outside and sat back 9L off leader on a fast tempo in a race that suited run on horses late. She ran home late from there for 21d beaten 0.3L by Apocalyptic. Maiden filly but beaten 0.2L by Nepotism in Group 1 Champagne Stakes last prep before spell which is a great reference for today. Gets blinkers on and a much better map off this draw which is crucial today if track plays as expected.

R7 n17 ROYAL PATRONAGE Positive early from draw to be on speed. Resumes off 147-day spell and two trials. Ran 21a most recent 1200m Wyong Sept 8. Both his trials have been impressive. He won Group 1 1300m race Randwick resuming last prep off a similar break and then was less than a length away next two runs in George Ryder and Doncaster-both at Group 1 level. Tim Clark will have him on speed early this map and while he has to carry the 61kg he is a quality horse and better than Group 3 class.

R10 n5 LORD PENMAN Forward inside behind leaders. 21d up off 35 days rises 4kg out to 1600m (+400m). Resumed off 133-day spell BM94 Rosehill sat back 5th inside 4L off leader/winner on a crawl speed tempo and was clearly unsuited there. Locked away inside and not a lot of room until the 200m then charged late beaten narrowly. He closed off with a huge L600m figure and fastest L200m of meeting. That was first run for Waller (ex NZ stable). Out to 1600m quickly but gets J Mac and I am a big fan of the ear muffs off gear change. Dryer track today in his favour and looks better than these. Keen he wins.
